Bohemians are saddened to learn of the passing of Ambrose Fogarty, aged 82.

The former midfielder began a distinguished football career with Bohs in 1952 and went on to star for Sunderland – where he became close friends with Brian Clough – and Hartlepool in England in the late fifties and early sixties.

“Amby” won 11 caps for Ireland between 1960 and 1964 before returning to the League of Ireland in 1966 to become player/manager of Cork Hibernians.

He subsequently had spells in charge of Cork Celtic, Drumcondra, Bray Wanderers, Athlone Town – where he guided the club to that memorable draw with AC Milan in 1975 – and finally Galway Rovers.

May he rest in peace.
