As the world marks the 100th anniversary of the outbreak of World War I, Bohs fan Paul Reynolds, while on holiday in France, visited the grave of Harold Sloan today.

An Ireland international, Sloan was a true Bohemian legend and was the first man to score in Dalymount Park, before captaining the Gypsies to the 1908 IFA Cup.

Sloan died at war aged 34 at Combles, near the Somme, on 21 January 1917 and is buried in the guards’ cemetery there.

To learn more about Sloan, read Ciaran Priestley’s extensive paper ‘Harold Sloan: A Forgotten Ranger’.
