Andy Mulligan has helped put Ireland’s colleges team in contention for a place in the World University Games quarter-finals in Russia, writes BRIAN TRENCH.
Mulligan celebrated his 20th birthday by scoring the second of Ireland’s two goals against China on Monday. But China came back with two goals to secure a draw.
Ireland need to draw or win against Mexico later today (Wednesday, 5pm Irish time) to make the quarter-finals in Kazan.
The team started its campaign last Friday with a surprise 2-1 win over hosts Russia. Mulligan came on as a substitute after an hour, replacing ex-Bohemian Correy Davdison, who had scored Ireland’s opening goal.
