Derek Pender

Bohemians are delighted to confirm that former club captain Derek Pender has been promoted to the position of first team academy transition coach.

Pender, 37, retired from first-team football at the end of the 2019 season after captaining the club to European qualification for the first time in eight years.

He took the reins of the Bohs-SKB U17s in 2020 and guided them to the SSE Airtricity U17 League title.

Welcoming Pender to his new position, first-team manager Keith Long said: “The thinking behind the role is to have someone with Derek’s experience, leadership and resillience qualitities on the pitch in training alongside our young players.

“Derek will impart that crucial knowledge he has from his time in the game as a player. To have that experience will be beneficial for our young players and have a positive impact on their collective and individual development.”
