Bohemians line out at Dalymount Park - Stephen Burke

Bohemians can confirm that expenses will be offered to our senior Women’s National League team for the 2021 season.

In our inaugural season in the senior WNL this year, Bohemians were one of the first clubs in the league not to charge annual fees for our players. An addition next season will be reimbursing players for expenses incurred.

That is a low bar, but we feel it is unacceptable that any player should have to pay to represent a senior team of our club.

We have so much to do to give women’s football the support and resources it deserves, but covering the expenses of our senior WNL team is an important next step in our own club’s journey.

These are just the first steps in our aim to make Bohemian FC the best environment in Ireland for women’s football.

Bohemians were late to the party when it comes to women’s football. We were not in a position to resource it as securing the very existence of the club took priority for much of the last decade.

Now that the club has been on a sound footing in recent years, great strides have been made as we play catch-up.

We have made a concerted effort to make up for lost time – our talented and decicated volunteers and coaches built a girls section from scratch in 2017 and now have eight grassroots girls teams up to U18 level.

The next step was entering our first WNL U17 team at the beginning of 2019 before making history in our 130th year by entering the senior Women’s National League for the first time this season.

Bohemians will have a third WNL team this year with the creation of the U19 WNL. Our U19s and U17s are holding trials in January. You can register your interest here.
