BOHEMIANS/ST KEVIN’S U17s 1 MONAGHAN/CAVAN 1
Honours even in the first game of the new SSE Airtricity U17 League season in which the new Bohs/SKB alliance made its debut against Monaghan/Cavan FP in a bitterly cold and windy St Aidan’s on St Patrick’s Day.
Both teams took a while to settle in the conditions but when they did, it was Jimmy Mowlds’ home side who controlled the first half, creating chances but failing to take them so they had nothing to show for their almost total dominance of possession at half-time.
The second half was less than three minutes old when the breakthrough goal arrived courtesy of a Dawson Devoy converted penalty which was awarded by the referee when he spotted an infringement following a free kick into the visitors penalty area.
That should have been the spark that ignited the home side to take control and go on and win the game but it was the visitors who scored next – another penalty – this time it was Warren Curran who was penalised for a foul in the box and the Monaghan No 9 made no mistake sending Jamie Cleary the wrong way from the spot.

The home side were guilty of some bad misses as they pushed on to get the winner with at least three or four good opportunities wasted.
So it ended 1-1 and while Bohs/SKB will be disappointed with the result, they know that they can improve and go on to have a successful season.
