125th anniversary programme

Bohemian FC is organising a programme of events in 2015 to mark the club’s 125th anniversary and the club is urging fans and friends to join in the celebrations.

Bohemians were founded at a meeting on 6 September 1890 and the club has the rare distinction of being a member-owned club since that time.

“We invite supporters and members of the local community to join this year’s celebrations,” said club president Matt Devaney.

“We have a proud history as a People’s Club since 1890, and we aim to strengthen our connections with the people of north Dublin in this anniversary year.”

Bohemians also have a distinguished record of playing continuously in the highest division of the national league since joining as a founding member in 1921.

Among the anniversary events and initiatives are:

  •  A public call for photos, programmes, jerseys, and other artefacts representing the club’s history, to be exhibited as part of the Phizzfest May festival
  • A special anniversary business support package, currently selling to local firms
  • A gala dinner on 15th August, for which tickets go on sale in February
  • Publication of a special anniversary 2015 calendar, already sold out
  • A golf classic on 20th August, for which entries are open
  • Bloomsday talks and drama centring on writer Oliver St John Gogarty, who played for Bohemians, and on his relations with James Joyce; presented in association with Phizzfest
  • A tour in September of Glasnevin Cemetery, visiting graves of people associated with Bohemians
  • Panel discussion of ‘Dublin in 1890′, the year Bohemians were founded, in association with Dublin Festival of History

Further details of these events and further items will be added to the programme in the coming weeks.

Also as part of the Phizzfest Big Day Out on the May Bank Holiday Weekend , Dalymount Park will host a Happenings open-air cinema event – film to be confirmed.
