TRIO RE-SIGN FOR 2018

Bohemians v Bray Wanderers - SSE Airtricity League Premier Division

Bohemians manager Keith Long has agreed new contracts with a further three players today.

Skipper Derek Pender, Dan Byrne and Patrick Kavanagh have signed deals to remain at Dalymount Park for the 2018 season.

It will be a seventh season at Bohs for right-back Pender, who was signed by Aaron Callaghan in 2012 and was made club captain when Owen Heary became manager in 2013.

‘Detser’, 33, battled back from an Achilles injury in 2015 and has led by example once again this year in what has been one one of his standout seasons in red and black.

A boyhood supporter of the club, Byrne, 24, came through the ranks with the Bohs U19s in 2011 and made his first-team debut in 2012.

After a brief stint with Kilbarrack, Byrne returned to Dalymount in July 2013. Injuries – cruciate and knee cartilage – seriously disrupted his progress in 2014 and 2015.

As a result, he was restricted to just two substitute league appearances in 2015. But the way he has bounced back since is a testament to his character.

He has been a regular this season and last. He made 26 league appearances in 2016 and has gone one better this year so far with 27.

Kavanagh, 31, joined Bohs at the start of the 2014 season, scoring on his debut against UCD.

Complemented by the attacking flair of Ismahil Akinade, Dinny Corcoran and Keith Ward, he too is enjoying one of his most impressive seasons at Bohs.

Today’s re-signings come on the back of Shane Supple and Rob Cornwall agreeing new contracts with the club yesterday.

It brings to eight the number of players under contract at Bohemians for next season: Oscar Brennan, Dan Byrne, Rob Cornwall, Paddy Kavanagh, Derek Pender, Fuad Sule, Shane Supple, Warren O’Hora.
