WARD RE-SIGNS, LUNNEY JOINS FROM ST PAT’S

Drogheda United v Bohemians - SSE Airtricity League Premier Division

Bohemians are delighted to announce that Keith Ward has re-signed for 2018 and that JJ Lunney has joined from St Patrick’s Athletic.

Also signed up for next season are U19 star Eoghan Morgan and 18-year-old striker Cristian Magerusan.

A fans’ favourite in his first spell at the club in 2012, Ward rekindled that form having re-signed from Derry City ahead of the 2016 season.

Manager Keith Long said: “Wardy’s been great for us and we’re delighted to he’s committed again.

“He took a little while to settle back in but Wardy is the kind of player that when he plays well, the whole team tends to play well.”

The 27-year-old chipped in with five league goals from midfield this season, most notably a stunning hat-trick away to Drogheda United in September.

But it is his creative ability that has earned him most plaudits, especially his understanding with striker Dinny Corcoran, who helped himself to 15 league goals this term.

Long said: “This is their second spell at Bohs playing together and they were also both at UCD too. They’ve developed a great undestanding and have a telepathic relationship.”

Lunney featured in 22 league games for St Patrick’s Athletic this year having signed from Preston North End.

The 19-year-old has been capped by Ireland from U15 all the way up to U19 level and is a player Bohs wanted to sign last year.

Long is delighted to have finally got his man and said: “We tried to bring him in before but unfortunately JJ had already committed to St Pat’s.

“He is a player who is going to give us great energy in midfield. He can play in the middle or on the wing and he’s a left-footer.

“He’s an excellent young player and is exactly the type of player we want to recruit to the club.

“He’s ambitious and we believe we can help him reach his potential at Dalymount Park.”

Having played for the Bohs schoolboys, Morgan re-signed for the club from Shamrock Rovers at the start of the 2017.

The midfielder, also 19, starred for the U19s as Graham Lawlor’s side went on to win the SSE Airtricity League U19 title.

The Glasnevin man’s performances were rewarded with first-team action in the Leinster Senior Cup and EA Sports Cup before being handed his league debut off the bench against Dundalk in July.

Magerusan, described by Long as “an excellent finisher and an all-round striker with great potential” has been training with the club since the start of the year.

But difficulties obtaining international clearance for the 18-year-old Romanian, who last lined out for Lucan United having also previously been on the books of CFR Cluj, prevented him for signing for the first team until now.

It brings to 17 the number of players under contract at Bohemians for next season: Oscar Brennan, Dan Byrne, Dan Casey, Dinny Corcoran, Rob Cornwall, Jamie Hamilton, Paddy Kavanagh, Paddy Kirk, JJ Lunney, Cristian Magerusan, Eoghan Morgan, Derek Pender, Fuad Sule, Shane Supple, Warren O’Hora, Keith Ward, John Ross Wilson.
